I have decided to leave all of the information
from the 2005 "Red Hills to the Sea" tour posted so folks
would have some information to look at if they are interested in
finding out more about what to expect on a Bike Florida tour. You
are also welcome to use the message board to communicate with other
riders from the tour as long as it remains active. If you need to contact Amanda, please write to amanda_bikeflorida@hotmail.com
as I will be moving to San Diego and will no longer have access
to my old account.
Finally, I have posted some photos from this
year's tour, that all are welcome to view. Click

ABOUT THE RIDE
Bike Florida 2005: Red Hills to the Sea (featuring Worm Gruntin'
and Oyster Shuckin') is a 7-day fully-supported bicycle and tent
camping tour that will pedal between 315-385 miles among the rolling
hills and along the beautiful Gulf Coast of the Florida Panhandle.
The tour is leisurely-paced, but challenging and is designed to
be a fun and relaxing vacation for cyclists of all ages. This year's
ride is for the adventurous and the hardy. We will use local park
facilities and school grounds for tent camping with porta-lets and
shower trucks. Limited indoor camping will be available. Motels
are sparce so register early or plan to camp. March in north Florida
can be chilly, with average highs around 70-75 and lows in
the 50's, so bring cold weather gear. The dogwoods and azaleas,
however, should be in full-bloom and breathtaking.
DAILY MILEAGE
This year's
ride will start and end in Monticello, Florida and cyclists will
ride between 45-75 miles daily, with no shorter routes available.
There will be a century option one day and a lay over day mid week
with an optional ride of up to 45 miles. The daily mileage will
be approximately as follows:
- Saturday: 12-40 miles around Monticello
- Sunday: Monticello to Quincy - 68 Miles
- Monday: Quincy to Blountstown - 55 miles
- Tuesday: Blountstown to Apalachicola - 75-100 miles (this will
be the century option day)
- Wednesday: Apalachicola lay-over day - 0-45 miles
- Thursday: Apalachicola to Sopchoppy - 55 miles
- Friday: Sopchoppy to Monticello - 60 miles
The final mileages will vary somewhat as we finalize the details
of the route. The Sunday and Monday rides will be through some hilly
north Florida countryside. Tuesday through Friday will be relatively
flat with some rolling hills.

UPDATE (1/24/05): We are still waiting
on some information/artwork that we want to include in the "adds"
(additional services) form so it is as detailed as possible when
we send/post it. We HOPE to have this form out no later than 2/8/05
and the deadline will be adjusted accordingly. You will still
have time to place your orders. Thanks for your understanding and
patience!! If you do not need a hard copy snail mailed and would
like to access and print your form off of the web, please email
amanda@bikeflorida.org so I know to remove your name from our mailing
list.
NON-RIDERS
Everyone must register for the event, even if you are not riding.
If you would like to volunteer, please indicate on your entry form.
Volunteers may be entitled to a partial fee waiver after the event.
This NON RIDER FEE option is in response to many non riders who
last year requested a reduced fee for the event. The NON-RIDER FEE
will entitle you to an event shirt, week long private vehicle permit
(no additional charge), driving maps between locations, access to
camping, entertainment, showers, restrooms. What are NOT included
are daily rest stop foods/beverages nor the lunches on Monday or
Friday; those lunches can be added via the meal order list if desired.
If you want rest stop options and the lunches, you would need to
pay the cyclist registration amount.
INDOOR CAMPING
All locations will have indoor camping. Some of these facilities
may not be air-conditioned and may be fairly small, but there will
be space for sleeping. Note: you will need to bring a bike chain,
lock and/or cover since bikes will NOT be allowed in any of the
gyms. This is necessary for safety reasons and to allow more space
for people to sleep. The schools should have plenty of sidewalks,
breezeways and fences where you will be able to secure your bike.
Affordable bike covers are probably available at your local bike
shop.
HOTELS AND LUGGAGE
Motel and B&B contact information has now been posted on the
website (click here). The shuttle
will not be able to provide transportation to all of the businesses
on the list. Please bear this in mind if you will be depending on
this service.

of the waiver with your signature. In an attempt to simplify things
at the onsite registration, we ask that you mail a copy of this
waiver form before the event. Please print out and sign the following
waiver and mail it to the address found at the bottom of the form:
