BIKE FLORIDA 2002:
SPRINGS BREAK

March 23-29, 2002
Gainesville to Tallahassee

Bike Florida Named:
Best Biking in America
by the League of American Bicyclists

Bike Florida will begin in Gainesville on Saturday, March 23 and end in Tallahassee on Friday, March 29, 2002.

The ride will be one full day longer this year with two lay-over locations, as suggested by the surveys conducted in 2001.  The route will travel nearly 400 miles through beautiful North Central Florida and the Suwannee River area, considered by most to be the best cycling roads in Florida.

The tour will visit nearly a dozen natural springs, three rail-trails and numerous award-winning state parks.  Excursions along the world famous Suwannee River and other rivers and their sparkling springs will provide as much fun off the bike as on it!  Plenty of opportunities for tubing, kayaking, hiking, canoeing, historic walking tours, antiquing and sight-seeing when you get off your bike.

Bike Florida will again have a cap on registration this year.  We will accept up to 850 cyclists for the full week's ride.  This event sold out nearly 2 months prior to the event last year.  Be sure to enter early so you are not left out.

The registration fee entitles you to a souvenir t-shirt, admission to the Florida Park Service's Springs and State Parks, two lunches,  maps and cue sheets, marked routes, entrance to campsites for up to 8 nights (tent camping or gym camping), nightly entertainment, hot showers, bathrooms, rest stops every 15 - 20 miles, sag wagon support, bike repair support (parts are extra), baggage transportation to the overnight campsites and medical support.

People wishing to make early plans can fly into either Gainesville or Tallahassee airports.  Bussing will be available from before the ride (for people wishing to leave cars at end of ride), after the ride (back to the ride start) and after weekend or 5 day options (back to the ride start).
