About

Our Mission

Bike Florida is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Florida communities improve their economic health, bicycle infrastructure and cycling safety through events and tourism.

Bike Florida was founded in 1992 to help communities in the State of Florida expand their bicycle awareness, education and infrastructure through bicycle tourism. Bringing bicyclists through our towns, trails and back roads to discover the vibrancy and natural beauty of Florida is a chance to expand their knowledge of and interest in our beautiful state. It is also an opportunity to add to the economic health of those communities; participants stay at local hotels, purchase goods in local shops and dine in local establishments while on tour.

Today, Bike Florida is so much more than a bicycle touring organization. We work one-on-one with cities and towns to improve their bicycle infrastructure and increase bicycle awareness in their communities through one day events that correspond with their specific needs. We hold Bicycle Mechanics 101 and Bicycle Safety 101 classes, helmet fitting sessions, orchestrate short family rides, and conduct learn-to-ride classes. We also co-sponsor and participate in other bicycle organizations’ outreach and community events.

Bicycle Friendly Business badge

Bike Florida is recognized as a Gold level Bicycle Friendly Business from the League of American Bicyclists!

We’ve joined nearly 1,500 local businesses, government agencies, and Fortune 500 companies across the United States in transforming the American workplace to be more welcoming to our customers and employees who bike. We are proud to support the health and well-being of our community by being more welcoming to people choosing to bike.

“Just as the League believes bikes should be celebrated every day, a Bicycle Friendly Business is the kind of employer or destination that offers encouragement, education, and resources to help commuters, both in their staff and in their surrounding communities, bike safely and confidently year-round and the League of American Bicyclists is proud to honor that commitment,” said Bill Nesper, executive director of the League of American Bicyclists.

Bike Florida joins a total of 1,494 current BFBs across the country, all united in a commitment to transform American workplaces to be more welcoming to customers and employees who bike. The Bicycle Friendly Business award recognizes an organization’s contributions over months and years to the movement to build a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone.
