Franklin County, Florida

Franklin County is a county along the Gulf of Mexico in the panhandle of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2010 census, the population was 11,549, making it the third-least populous county in Florida. The county seat is Apalachicola. Often referred to as ‘The Forgotten Coast,’ Franklin County has beautiful, restorative Gulf beaches to swim and fish in. Birders flock there annually to catch the hatching of eagles, osprey and to witness the butterfly migrations. Also popular in the area: geocaching. Geocaching sends seekers on a treasure hunt for a container of trinkets and prizes. Participants use a smartphone, Global Positioning System receiver (GPSr), or other navigational techniques to locate containers called “geocaches” or “caches.”
