Putnam County, Florida

Putnam County is a county located in the northeastern part of the state of Florida. As of the 2010 census, the population was 74,364. Its county seat is Palatka. William Bartram, the author and artist who explored the American South on a four-year journey, arrived in Palatka in 1774. Where today you’ll find the county seat, Bartram found an Indian village surrounded by an orange grove and fields of corn, potatoes, beans, squash, melon, and tobacco. While visiting Putnam County, check out the Ravine Gardens – the park was constructed by the Works Progress Administration, with cypress buildings, rock gardens and fieldstone terraces, and St Johns River Center, which provides a good learning experience of nature and history of the St Johns River area.
