Sarasota County is in Southwest Florida on the Gulf Coast. As of the 2010 US Census, the population was 379,448. Its county seat is the City of Sarasota. The City of Sarasota is known for its vibrant arts community, excellent restaurants, unique shopping, and beautiful beaches. Sarasota, although a mid-sized city, is considered to be the cultural center of West Central Florida. Endowed with inspiring natural beauty, an appealing climate, and world-class arts and culture, this county is home to Ringling Museum of Art, Ringling College of Art & Design, Selby Botanical Gardens, and the newest addition, Sarasota Art Museum, which is housed in the impressive former Sarasota High School building. The John and Mabel Ringling Museum of Art sits on a 66-acre campus that includes a circus museum and the couple’s Mediterranean style mansion called Ca’ d’Zan.
