Devil's Den Loop Bike Packing Tour

October 25-27, 2019

As a bike packing trip, you will carry your own camping gear and supplies--so pack light! We will take care of everything else: all meals, adult beverages, and of course full route support. Gear transport is available for an extra fee of $75.  Read below for all the details.

Cost:

  • Rider, outdoor camping: $395

  • Rider, camping indoor 1 night: $425

  • One-day Tag Along rider: $25

Terrain:

Rough dirt routes on undulating routes.

Ideal Bike/Tire option:

Cross or mountain bike, with lowest width of 30 mm. We recommend at 38 mm and higher for the most enjoyment.

 

Total Trip distance:

147 Miles

 

Avg Distance Per day:

48 Miles

 

Tour includes:

  • Experienced Ride Guides

  • 2 Breakfasts (and coffee): Oct. 26 and 27

  • 3 SAG Stops and Lunches: Oct. 25, 26, 27

  • 2 Dinners: Oct. 25, 26

  • Limited Adult Beverages

  • Most meals will be prepared on site, some meals may be purchased and brought to SAG stops in an effort to save time.

  • Snacks and adult beverages will be readily available.

Ride Format: Bike-Packing

Bike packing is when you load all your own gear, clothing, tents, food and any other necessities on your own bike as you ride from one place to another. Riding this way gives you a feeling of adventure that you would not otherwise have on a standard supported bicycle tour.

 

Bike Florida's version of bike-packing is a little different. On our tour, you carry your own camping gear and supplies on your bike while we take care of everything else. This allows you to have that feeling of adventure without the worries of getting lost, needing food, or taking care of any bike mechanical issues.

 

You are encouraged to ride at your own pace and if you have a compatible GPS unit you can ride self-guided for the duration of the event. You will receive time windows indicating when SAG/Lunch stop will be open and closed.There will be a SAG vehicle on the route, a route guide and a sweep.If you prefer to ride with the guide, that is great. Both the guide and the sweep will keep about a 13mph avg pace, but will start at different times.

 

However, if you really want to ride but you really hate the idea of carrying your own stuff, for an extra $75 you can have your gear shuttled from site to site. Spots are limited and first come, first serve.

 

Ride Itinerary

Day 1:

  • Micanopy to Devil’s Den: 41 miles.

  • Ride Starts in beautiful Micanopy, site of the old cinematic classic Doc Hollywood. From there, we take oak lined streets and undulating dirt roads south towards the day's destination of Devil's Den.

  • Snacks and water available at ride start.

  • Lunch/Sag Stop at approximately the halfway point of ride.

  • Dinner at Two Hammocks campsite.

Day 2:

  • Devil’s Den To Gilchrist Blue Springs: 50 Miles.

  • The second day is a mix of rough dirt roads as we make our way north to the Santa Fe River Basin. We will make camp that evening at Gilchrist Blue Springs.

  • Breakfast at Two Hammocks.

  • Lunch/Sag stop at approximately the halfway point.

  • Dinner at Blue Springs Gilchrist state park.

Day 3:

  • Gilchrist Blue Springs to Micanopy: 53 miles

  • Our last day's ride is a fun mix of dirt and rough roads.

  • Breakfast at Blue Springs.

  • Lunch/Sag at approximately the halfway point.

  • Some light snacks and drinks at finish.

Rider Cancellation Policy:

A non-refundable deposit of $50 is included as part of the registration fee. Cancellations more than 30 days from the start of the event will receive a full refund minus the $50 non-refundable deposit. Cancellations within 30 days of the start of the event will receive a 50% refund of all registration fees. Registrations may be transferred to another person but may not be transferred to future events.
