Brought to you by Bike Florida and Bike/Walk Tampa Bay

This inaugural tour is named after Florida’s Beach Sunflower, which grows only in Florida, blooms year-round, and requires an abundance of sun and salt to survive.

The women in Florida’s cycling community are much the same. The more they sweat, and the farther they go, the greater their determination and strength.

It is in this spirit that we are inviting a group of thirty women to ride with us across the Sunshine State, from Coast to Coast, October 22-24, 2021.

The tour is fully supported, and almost all of the routes use trails separated from motorized vehicles.

Of course! At the halfway point of each day’s ride, we will have a SAG stop and shuttle that you can take to our destination if you want to call it a day early.

You are on your own for meals, but we will have a happy hour each evening with a small selection of adult beverages.

Of course you do! As a lead-up to the ride, we’ll be posting training ideas and scheduling group training rides in our Tampa Bay Women’s Facebook Group.

Because our ride leaders are on the route until every participant has completed the ride, you will never be last. For the purposes of this tour’s logistics, you should able to maintain a minimum average rolling pace of 14 mph. If you cannot ride that fast but still really want to come, consider renting an e-bike.

If in the unlikely chance you get off course, and the printed maps and ride app aren’t providing any help, just give us a call and someone will either pick you up from where you are or help you navigate back to the course.

Prior to the ride we’re going to have a couple of in-person, hands-on bike clinics to practice basics, such as how to change your tire. During the ride we will have a mechanic at our rest stops to help with any major issues.n

We will be providing the phone number of our SAG and ride leaders so that you can tell them where you are and arrange to be picked up.

You are responsible for carrying enough food and water to sustain you for a minimum of 40 miles, so plan accordingly. The rest stops, which are located at the halfway point, will have snacks, water, and Gatorade. If you have any special dietary requirements, you will need to provide those yourself.

Yes, pedal-assist bicycles are allowed, but spaces are limited.  Please contact joy@bikeflorida.org before signing up if that is what you plan to ride.
